Shimla, Sep 22 - Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal Monday said all the people trapped in the cold desert of the state 'are safe and will be rescued in a few days'.
<br><br>
'Essential commodities like medicines, food and blankets have been air-dropped in Sarchu and Chattru areas of Lahaul valley by the Indian Air Force,' Dhumal told reporters here.<br><br>
Official sources said about 400 people were stuck at various locations along the 475-km-long Manali-Leh highway due to landslides.<br><br>
Dhumal said the Border Roads Organisation - and the state public works department were working round the clock to open the road through Baralacha pass to Sarchu so that the people could be evacuated. <br><br>
'A military camp has been providing medical and other facilities near Sarchu to the stranded passengers,' he said.<br><br>
Dhumal said Baralacha pass, which is located at a height of 4,883 metres, would be opened for traffic within a day.
