Kolkata, April 12 - Bollywood singer and BJP candidate from West Bengal's Asansol constituency Babul Supriyo Saturday filed a police complaint alleging he was heckled and his bodyguard assaulted by Trinamool Congress activists during campaigning.
He also accused police of allowing the attackers to flee.
The Election Commission said it has sought a report from the Burdwan district magistrate after receiving Supriyo's complaint.
We have been intimated by the DM - about the incident and have sought a report from him, chief electoral officer Sunil Gupta told reporters here.
Supriyo named Trinamool Raniganj block president Senapati Mandal and his son among other Trinamool activists in his complaint about the assault during his roadshow at Raniganj town in Burdwan district.
They not only manhandled and abused me but also assaulted several of my team members including my bodyguard. I have named Mandal and his son among others in the complaint, said Supriyo, who also alleged police inaction despite being present at the site.
We are also giving in writing the names of the three police officers who got hold of the attackers, but shamelessly let them go, Supriyo told IANS.
Mandal has rubbished Supriyo's claims and accused him of trying to create trouble during the roadshow.
The Bharatiya Janata Party - has also filed a complaint with the Election Commission in this regard.
