"Inspired by their supreme leader, other Trinamool speakers are coming out with fiery speeches intimidating voters and instructing them not to vote for LF or other opposition parties, thus preparing the pitch for total chaos on polling day to prevent free and fair election."
Kolkata, April 22 - Accusing West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of challenging the Election Commission through her confrontationist attitude, the Left Front urged the poll panel to take immediate action to foil the key role she was playing to prevent free and fair elections in the state.

In a letter to Chief Election Commissioner V.S. Sampath, Left Front chairman Biman Bose complained that Banerjee's Trinamool Congress has violated the model code of conduct in force for the elections many times more that other parties in various parts of the state.

Probably no other major political leader is responsible for so many irreverent, uncivil, untrue and provocative statements as Mamata Banerjee, the supreme leader of the Trinamool, is capable of making, Bose said in the missive.

Refering to Banerjee's speech at the Ramlila Maidan in Delhi last month, he alleged that the Trinamool leader levelled completely unsubstantiated and presposterous charge that the Left Front major Communist Party of India-Marxist and other parties were hatching a conspiracy to kill her.

Bose said during a press briefing at Durgapur in Burdwan district earlier this month Banerjee had launched a long tirade against the Election Commission and some political parties after the poll panel removed some officers from election-related duties.

Her confrontationist attitude with regard to the commission was vident and she followed it up next day when the chief secretary issued an order that the transferred officers would go back to their positions once the election was over. This sent a wrong message to voters as well as district-level officials.

Obviously, the chief minister is throwing a challenge to the CEC and cares little for the MCC. Encouraged by this, her followers attacked Election Commission officials in several districts apart from attacks on workers from other political parties.

Refering to the incident in a hotel of Malda district where the air-conditionong machine in the chief minister's room developed problems and emitted smoke, the letter said the incident, serious in itself, was blown out of proportion when the chief minister read in it a plot to kill her.

Bose alleged that the chief minister repeated the fiction April 18 at meetings in the districts, which infuriated her supporters and a youth, Hiralal, was killed in Birbhum the same day.

Inspired by their supreme leader, other Trinamool speakers are coming out with fiery speeches intimidating voters and instructing them not to vote for LF or other opposition parties, thus preparing the pitch for total chaos on polling day to prevent free and fair election.

The series of provocations seem to be part of a design.. One can very well form the idea that the chief minister herself is playing a key role in this design, the letter said, urging the poll panel to take immediate action, this evil design may triumph over the citizen's right to vote.
