"Police had also claimed that Rashid had told the investigators about LeT's plan to execute a terror strike on the anniversary of Babri Masjid demolition."
New Delhi, May 8 - Delhi Police Thursday filed charge sheets against two suspected Lashkar-e-Toiba - operatives, accused of planning terror strikes in India.
The charge sheet was filed before Additional Sessions Judge Daya Prakash.
Police had named Mohammad Shahid and Mohammad Rashid, who were arrested from Haryana's Mewat district in December last year as accused in the case and charged them under various offence dealing with criminal conspiracy and the provisions of Unlawful Activities - Act.
Police said that Shahid had heard about the atrocities committed on Muslims during the Gujarat riots, Babri Masjid demolition and other similar communal riots in different cities in India. Since then, Shahid had got motivated to do something for his community and was looking for a right person who is involved in Jihad.
According to charge sheet, in one of the many conferences that he - had attended, in or around March/April 2013 he met Rashid, who was Imam in Haweli Wali Masjid in Village Ghagas, Mewat. Both of them shared their views on jihad and thereafter, started meeting regularly.
Police said that Rashid had informed Shahid that he was in regular touch with the LeT's Pakistan-based commander and that Shahid would have to help him arrange for a SIM card based on fictitious identities.
During investigation conducted so far, the following facts have come on record to establish that arrested accused Rashid and Shahid are members of banned terrorist organisation LeT...and were in conspiracy with Abdul Subhan - and Javed Baluchi - to plot a terrorist action in Delhi/adjoining areas, police said in the charge sheet.
Regarding Baluchi, police had said that intelligence agencies had provided information in November last year that Baluchi was contacted on his Pakistani mobile number from Rajasthan and there were conversations regarding a conspiracy to carry out a terror strike in India.
Police had also claimed that Rashid had told the investigators about LeT's plan to execute a terror strike on the anniversary of Babri Masjid demolition.
According to police, after their arrest, Rashid and Shahid had said that they had met two people in Uttar Pradesh's Muzaffarnagar after the riots there in September.
