Los Angeles, May 9 - Comedian Will Ferrell and his business partner Adam Mckay are developing a new animated feature film version of cartoon The Flintstones.

The duo will serve as executive producers on the project, while one of the staffs working at Ferrell and MCKay's Gary Sanchez Productions company will pen the script, reports contactmusic.com.

The cartoon was first adapted for film in 1994 with a live-action movie starring Rick Moranis as Fred Flintstone. It also featured John Goodman.

It was followed by 2000 released film The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas.

Ferrell and MCKay have previously worked together on The Other Guys and Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues.
