Kolkata, Aug 5 - Three people claiming to be CBI officials decamped with 425 grams of gold jewellery by conning employees of a security agency here, police said Tuesday.

The incident occurred Monday evening when two staff members of the agency Sequel Logistics, tasked with delivering jewellery, were walking towards their car after collecting four sealed packets of ornaments from a jewellery shop in central Kolkata.

The alleged culprits introduced themselves as officers with the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and started to search the packets by breaking the seal on the plea that they were looking for explosives.

After the search they fled. The security agency staff reported the matter to the jewellery shop, and 425 grams of ornaments were found missing, a police officer said.

A case has been filed.
