New Delhi, Aug 6 - Three-day festivities have begun at the Lalit Kala Akademi here to celebrate its 60th anniversary, the organisers said Wednesday.

The festivities include a painting exhibition, an installation and dance performances.

Minister of Culture and Tourism Shripad Yesso Naik inaugurated the event Tuesday evening.

This institute has successfully contributed in the promotion of Indian art at an international level. Apart from this, it has also preserved and nurtured Indian tribal culture and heritage, and has found ways to reach out to different audiences in India, Naik said at the inauguration.

There is an exhibition of works of art selected from the collection of the Akademi that shows how artists have been viewing India in their own perspective.

An installation titled Secret Life of Memories consisting of photographic prints, videos and sounds of the cultural lineages of Tibet and Sikkim as well as some re-enactment of Kalimpong Tibetan Operam has also been put up.
