Moscow, Aug 6 - Amid ongoing drills in Russia's several major military districts, a specialised peacekeeping brigade intensified training Wednesday in Volga River's Samara region, a media report here said.

Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu inspected the training in the central military district, and was informed that the ammunition expenditure of the motorised brigade had grown five fold at gunfire drills this year, Xinhua reported.

Brigade commander Vitaly Gerasimov said each of the drivers had so far practiced more than 2,000 km.

Russia Monday started a week-long military drill involving over 100 bombers and fighter jets with the purpose of improving coordination between its aviation and air defence systems.

The drill was conducted for the first time in the territory of three military districts, namely the western, central and southern military districts.

Russia has been calling for an international humanitarian mission in eastern Ukraine, where ongoing clashes between government troops and pro-independence militias have claimed over 1,300 lives since April.
