" In a separate incident, a paramilitary trooper had committed suicide by shooting himself in neighbouring Rayagada district in July."
Bhubaneswar, Aug 9 IANS) A trooper with Odisha's anti-Maoist Special Operations Group (SOG) Saturday shot himself dead in Koraput district, police said.

The 25-year-old Gangadhar Behera who was working as a jawan in the district of Bargarh had come to his home in Damanjodi area of Koraput Friday without informing his seniors, Inspector General of Police (south-western range) Yashwant Jethwa told IANS.

He went to the roof of his house and shot himself with his service rifle, Jethwa said. The cause of his suicide has not yet been ascertained although we suspect family trouble, he said.

Troopers engaged in anti-Maoist operations often work under mental pressure as they stay away from their families for months together.

A SOG jawan from the same district had committed suicide after killing his three family members and a car driver with his service rifle in May this year.

In a separate incident, a paramilitary trooper had committed suicide by shooting himself in neighbouring Rayagada district in July.

Another paramilitary trooper committed suicide by shooting himself with his service weapon in the state's Kandhamal district in January.
