Johannesburg, Aug 19 - At least nine people were killed and many suspected to be buried under debris after a building collapsed in South Africa Monday, authorities said.

The toll could rise as some people were still trapped in debris in Alberton, Johannesburg, Xinhua reported.

Rescue workers were searching for survivors, Ekurhuleni Emergency Services spokesperson William Ntladi said.

The cause of the collapse could not be immediately known.
