" Police added the accused was required to be produced in a Jharkhand court and sought timely remand of the accused."
Ranchi, Aug 27 - National shooter Tara Shahdeo, allegedly tortured to convert to Islam by a Muslim who married her by posing as a Hindu, has demanded a CBI probe into the episode.

We demand a CBI probe. Ranjeet alias Rakibul is playing his cards and everything is taking place as per his plan. The issue will die down after his arrest. He has connections with ministers, police officers and people in the judiciary. Only a CBI probe will unveil the entire thing, Tara told reporters.

She is happy that Ranjeet has been arrested but is skeptical of getting justice. Video footage on some news channels shows Ranjeet's mother dancing with a police officer on the day of her son's marriage.

Ranjeet Tuesday sent an email to media houses claiming his innocence and saying that his 80-year-old mother was operated upon and was undergoing treatment.

The Ranchi police say they have not got any documentary evidence to prove that Ranjeet is a Muslim by faith.

Ranjeet alias Rakibul will be interrogated once he arrives Ranchi Wednesday night. We will interrogate all the people whom Rakibul will name, a police officer told IANS.

Sources close to Shahdeo say police are making a case of a husband torturing his wife. They say the police are not interested in interrogating politicians, police and judicial officials who were visitors at Ranjeet's house.

Ranjeet Singh Kohli alias Rakibul Hasan Khan, 30, was arrested Tuesday and presented before a court here Wednesday.

During the in-camera proceeding, Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Satish Kumar Arora granted Jharkhand Police three-day transit remand of Ranjeet and his mother.

According to sources, police told the court a Jharkhand court had issued a non-bailable warrant against Ranjeet.

Police added the accused was required to be produced in a Jharkhand court and sought timely remand of the accused.

Ranjeet was arrested Tuesday night from near the Delhi-Ghaziabad border in a joint operation by the Jharkhand and the Delhi police teams.
