Kolkata, Jan 30 - Rattled by a series of electoral defeats, the West Bengal unit of the Communist Party of India-Marxist - Saturday decided to launch an intensive political campaign to organise the people in its bid to turn the situation in its favour.
Addressing the extended meeting of the state committee, its secretary Biman Bose also laid stress on making the party members more active to and increasing their political consciousness on the prevailing situation.
'To attain the goal, the workers and leaders have to make whoeharted efforts. Side by side, left unity has to be strengthened,' Bose said after circulating a draft note for discussion.
The note identified increased mass contact, aimed at launching a mass movement and class struggle, besides strengthening and activating the mass organisations. 'We have to retain the party's mass revolutionary character, improve democratic centralism and joint functioning, and launch a mass initiative to implement administrative work,' said a CPI-M media release.
The state committee meeting was presided over by Benoy Konar, a member of the party's central committee. CPI-M general secretary Prakash Karat and politburo member Sitaram Yechury also attended the meeting.
The state committee has urged the party members to intensify mass movements and class struggle through mass contacts to increase the organisational strength of the party, which reached a new low after recent poll reverses.
'The party should mobilise the masses to build up resistance against the atrocities let loose by the anti Left Front forces,' the release said.
The meeting will conclude Sunday.
