Himachal BJP postpones poll to choose new chief

Shimla, Jan 28 - The election to choose a new Bharatiya Janata Party - president for Himachal Pradesh, slated for Jan 30, has been postponed, a party spokesman said Thursday. <br><br> 'A decision to postpone the election for the post of the state president was taken this - evening at a meeting of party leaders held in Chandigarh,' the spokesman Ashok Kapatia told IANS. <br><br> He said the meeting was attended among other by Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal, former union minister Shanta Kumar and state party in charge Satya Pal Jain. <br><br> He refused to cite the reason for postponing the election as the election process was almost complete. <br><br> Former chief minister of Uttarakhand Bhagat Singh Koshiari was appointed the party's central observer for the election. <br><br> Sitting cabinet minister J.P. Nadda, a close confidant of nation BJP president Nitin Gadkari, was considered the hot contender for the post. He is currently the state's forest minister. <br><br> Presently, Khimi Ram is the state president. He was appointed president in July last year after then president Jairam Thakur was inducted into the Dhumal cabinet. <br><br>
