New Delhi, Feb 8 - Nearly 200 officials of the Delhi Transport Corporation - Monday travelled by bus to come to work in an effort to understand the problems faced by commuters.
Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit had suggested that DTC officials travel by DTC buses to understand the real problems faced by commuters.
Officials, who travelled by buses, included DTC's Chairman and Managing Director Naresh Kumar and other senior officials. Kumar took a bus from Sector-1 R.K. Puram area in south Delhi to near ITO, which is one of the busiest places in the city.
'The journey took around an hour. In peak hours, it takes more time to travel. Probably frequency can be increased during peak hours to handle the situation and make the ride comfortable for passengers,' Kumar told IANS.
Though it was decided that officials will travel on every second Monday of the month, Kumar said: 'The day can be changed to bring in the element of surprise.'
Welcoming the decision, Dikshit said: 'It's a good step and it should continue. When senior officials will travel by bus, they will understand the problems faced by travellers better.'
A DTC official said: 'The step would help in improving functioning of the DTC network. The officials will also look at other issues related to conductors and drivers.'
