Bhopal, May 6 - A case of corruption has been filed against BJP legislator and former minister Omprakash Dhurve in Madhya Pradesh by the state's Lok Ayukta, or ombudsman, for allegedly cheating the state civil supplies corporation.
In his capacity as food and civil supplies minister and chairman of the state civil supplies corporation in 2003, Dhurve had allegedly gone out of his way to help a contractor Mukesh Goyal, causing financial losses to the corporation, Lok Ayukta sources said.
'The case pertains to awarding tenders for food grain transportation in Hoshangabad district. The tenders were invited but the minister never approved the awarding of contract to the lowest bidder and kept sitting on the file for three months, during which the food grains continued to be transported at higher rates', they said.
Mohammed Shafi, the lowest bidder, then filed a complaint with the Lok Ayukta, accusing Dhurve of not signing the file on lame pretexts and having kept it pending for about three months.
'The case has been filed under the Prevention of Corruption Act against Dhurve and businessman Mukesh Goyal on the directives from Lokayukta Justice Ripusudan Dayal', said deputy inspector general of police G.P. Singh.
