Srinagar, May 6 - Police resorted to mild baton charge to disperse agitated students here, who tried to stage demonstrations against the sex scandal that has rocked Kashmir in the last few days.
According to the police, a group of students in Kashmir University shouted slogans and tried to stage a protest march against the sex scandal that surfaced here recently, which allegedly involves senior politicians, bureaucrats and police officials.
Protesters also gathered at the Habba Kadal locality of the city where a large mob had Friday demolished the house of the alleged mastermind of the sex racket.
'People were trying to destroy the leftover household goods at Sabina's house in Habba Kadal locality. We had to fire a few tear smoke shells and use batons to restore order in the area where protesters were attacking police parties', said a senior police officer.
Investigations into the infamous sex scandal have already been handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigations (CBI) by the Jammu and Kashmir government. The CBI team is expected to reach here Saturday and take charge of the investigations.
After Friday's widespread protests, life returned to some kind of normalcy in Srinagar with markets, banks, educational institutions and government offices doing business as usual.
