Kochi (Kerala), May 6 - Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) legislator Mathai Chacko, who contested the just-concluded assembly polls in Kerala, has been detected with leukaemia and put on chemotherapy treatment.
The 46-year-old Chacko had not been keeping well for the past few months.
Chacko is a first time legislator from Meppayur in Kozhikode district for the assembly polls held on April 29. He had collapsed on the last day of the election campaign. He had contested the Thiruvamabady constituency from the same district earlier.
Speaking to IANS, V.P. Gangadharan, the physician treating Chacko, said that chemotherapy has begun for leukaemia on Friday.
Chacko was a firebrand youth CPI-M leader and was very active in the floor of the assembly during the recently concluded Kerala assembly.
