Jalgaon -, Feb 23 - The Maharashtra government has asked the Criminal Investigation Department - of the state police to probe a case against a policeman, who was arrested for allegedly killing a farmer here.
Faijpur division's Sub-Divisional Police Officer - Dilip Shankarwar was arrested Tuesday for allegedly murdering Suresh Chaudhary -.
'The concerned officer has been booked for murder under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code. The CID will probe the case further,' state Home Minister R.R. Patil told reporters Wednesday.
Jalgaon's guardian minister Gulabrao Deokar told IANS Wednesday that he had met Patil over the incident and urged a CID investigation.
According to a complaint filed by Yunus Tadvi -, who was with the victim at the time of the incident, Chaudhary was beaten up by Shankarwar in Yawal town of Jalgaon district.
Shankarwar was on duty patrolling schools where state board examinations were being held in Yawal town, some 90 km from the district headquarters of Jalgaon.
At one of the schools, Shankarwar saw Chaudhary and questioned his presence. He asked Chaudhary to leave as he had nothing to do at the school.
But, Tadvi who had come along with the Chaudhary, claimed in his complaint that he saw Chaudhary being beaten up by the police officer.
In his complaint, Tadvi said that Chaudhary suffered a fit and died because of the beating.
Following the incident, angry protestors pelted stones at the local police station.
