Quake jolts Philippines

Manila, Aug 30 - A magnitude-7 earthquake hit the Philippines Tuesday but no damage was reported, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said.

The quake occurred at 2.57 p.m. -, according to Xinhua.

The epicentre was monitored at a depth of 485 km, and 1,406 km southeast of the southern city of General Santos, the institute said.

The Philippines sit in the so-called Pacific Ring of Fire, an area where continental plates collide, producing frequent quakes and volcanic activity.
