One witness shows up as 2G trial begins

New Delhi, Nov 11 - Only one of three witnesses turned up Friday as trial began in the 2G spectrum allocation case before a special court after formal charges were framed against all 17 accused, including former communications minister A. Raja and DMK MP Kanimozhi.

Though three witnesses were supposed to appear before the Central Bureau of Investigation's - Special Judge O.P. Saini, only Anand Subramaniam, presently working as the vice-president, Reliance Group, showed up as proceedings began.

The other two were A.N. Sethuraman, working as the group president of Reliance Group, and Vinod Kumar Budhiraja, chief regulatory officer - with Etisalat DB Telecom Pvt Ltd.

Subramaniam recorded his statement before the judge.

The court had Oct 22 ordered the trial to commence Friday with all the accused declining to plead guilty to various offences.

All the 14 individuals accused in the case are in judicial custody.
