New Delhi, March 22 - Even as opposition parties united against the government over an alleged coal mining scandal, which they termed as mother of all scams, Coal Minister Sriprakash Jaiswal Thursday said he had no information about the issue.
Responding to questions from reporters outside parliament, Jaiswal said he became a minister only in the second term of the United Progressive Alliance and no coal blocks were allotted during his tenure.
I have no information about any scam... I am coal minister only in the UPA-2 and during this time no coal block was given, he said.
I can't comment based on media reports. If we receive the CAG report then we will analyse it, he added.
According to a newspaper report, the Comptroller & Auditor General - in its draft report on coal mining has accused the government of having given undue benefits to a number of companies, leading to a loss of Rs.10.67 lakh crore to the national exchequer during 2004-09.
BJP leader Prakash Javadekar has described the alleged scandal as the mother of all scams.
This is the mother of all scams and this government is the government of looters, Javadekar told reporters.
