Mexican officials received information Friday that the girl had been spotted in the streets of Sonsonate, located about 90 km from San Salvador, the Foreign Relations Secretariat said in a statement.
Instructions were given to the Mexican Embassy, which proceeded to take action to find the minor, who was located with the assistance of the National Civilian Police -, the secretariat said.
Valeria was taken by police to the immigration service office in the port city of Acajutla and later handed over to a child welfare agency, the secretariat said.
Nelson Vladimir Valencia Masin, a 43-year-old Salvadoran citizen, was arrested Saturday on kidnapping charges, police said.
