New Delhi, Aug 30 - Hundreds of resident doctors of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) continued their strike Thursday in protest at not receiving their postgraduate degrees. The strike affected services at its out patients department (OPD) badly.
Hundreds of patients at the OPD, which is visited by around 6,000 people every day, were left unattended Thursday, the second day of the strike by medicos protesting over not getting their degrees even two years after clearing the exams.
On Wednesday, the resident doctors had boycotted the OPD although they attended the ICUs and emergency wards.
Over 300 postgraduates of AIIMS are yet to receive their degree certificates, making it difficult for them to apply for jobs elsewhere or for further studies.
The protesting medicos allege that Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss has not signed the certificates though the other three signatories - director, registrar and dean - had signed them.
Ramadoss has urged the protesting medicos to call off their strike and assured them that he will sign their degree certificates soon, but the junior doctors have refused to relent,
AIIMS is India's top government hospital and medical college that treats over 8,000 patients every day.
